James Francis Beals

James Francis Beals was born in June, 1846 to Jacob Beals and Elizabeth Brey in Beaver Twp., Clarion Co. PA. He was the youngest of eight, with the oldest as the only girl. His siblings were: Flora Ann Beals, Samuel Beals, Benjamin Beals, Jacob Beals Jr., William Beals, Hiram Beals, and Levi Franklin Beals. [2] His parents, Jacob and Elizabeth (Bry, Brye, Brey, or Bray, depending on the source) had moved from Lehigh County, PA to Clarion County, PA in 1841.

When he was in his 20's James worked in a meat market with Hiram and possibly more of his brothers according to the general directory for the oil regions of Pennsylvania for 1872-73 which lists James F. Beals, Hiram Beals, and "Beals & Bro" as working at the meat market.

Around the year 1867, James married Adeline Kribbs and together they had two children: a daughter, Bernice Beals, and a son, Charles F. Beals.

By 1882, Adeline had passed away and James married his second wife, Olive Bower and they had four children: Arminta or "Mintie," Florence, James Elgie, and a child that died in infancy. The daughter died at birth in 1894 and Olive died giving birth to her.

James married his third wife, Elizabeth Ashbaugh, in 1904. They married at 11:00 in the day and then took the afternoon Emlenton train to see Ohio and the St. Louis exposition.

In May of 1930 James Francis Beals died of pneumonia.
