It has been called a breakthrough week for Barca, with the team languishing in the middle of the La Liga table, bottom of their Champions League group and forever in financial jeopardy.
But it was the best possible start as they beat Valencia 3-1 at Camp Nou, with Ansu Fati at his best.

Ronald Koeman’s men host Dynamo Kiev midweek, without a Champions League win so far after back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Bayern Munich and Benfica.
They then face their rivals Real Madrid in The classic next Sunday.
But with the first hurdle cleared, we caught up with Eurosport Spain’s Felix Martin in the middle of Barca’s biggest week, and to get the latest news on the brilliant Fati and a potential new contract.

Is this week decisive for Barcelona?
I don’t know if anything has changed against Valencia, but it is obvious that Barca have played three huge games this week. The first was yesterday against Valencia, a very uncomfortable team to face, and then Wednesday against Dynamo Kiev, where their future will most likely be decided in the Champions League. And finally, The classic next Sunday .
Is Fati already Barcelona’s most important player?
Barca desperately needed a leader to introduce themselves and carry the team. And Fati’s recovery is definitely great news for the club. He’s a pretty electric player – he’s great in one-on-one situations and a great dribbler. He showed, at 18, after suffering serious injuries and knee complications, that he is ready to lead Barca for the next 10 years. Ansu Fati and Pedri are expected to be the two main pillars around which Barca are expected to build their next sporting project.
Will he sign a new contract after the deadlock in negotiations?
The contract extension has not yet been signed. From my perspective, Barca’s approach with Fati was wrong when they gave him the number 10 (which is obviously a huge number in their history). It would have been better for Barca to offer him a big contract extension AND the number 10, which would have confirmed him as the new team manager. It would have been a better approach given that Barca probably won’t be able to give him a lot of money (that’s just my opinion).
Additionally, Jorge Mendes is his agent, and although Ansu seems happy to be staying at Barcelona, Mendes will likely try to get him as much money as possible.
