PARKERSBURG — Missy Covert, director of rehabilitation services, OT, MOT/L, has been named WVU Medicine Camden Clark Leader of the Year for 2021.
Covert began his career at Camden Clark 12 years ago as an occupational therapist. She became team leader in December 2011, then director of rehabilitation services in May 2020.
Covert’s service consistently receives high satisfaction scores, according to a hospital statement. His accomplishments include the development of a safe patient mobility program, which improves patient and staff safety, and a music therapy program. She is now working to expand rehabilitation services to women’s and children’s services, focusing on intervention with at-risk newborns.
Always looking for ways to better serve the needs of the community, Covert presented a business plan to develop a centralized outpatient rehabilitation services clinic as part of strategic planning and future growth.
The statement said Covert did not hesitate when asked to take over the coordination of the COVID-19 vaccination initiative. She worked with the hospital’s internal workforce, the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department and churches to bring the vaccine to the community and hospital employees.
Covert works with and is highly respected by her peers and direct reports, the statement said. She is also an excellent occupational therapist, often solicited by name by patients.
“I’ve called her many times, both personally and professionally, asking for help or advice, and she’s always helped me.” one of Covert’s nominations was noted. “She is truly a role model when it comes to demonstrating our core values.”
