The Uvalde Lobos lost all four of their games last weekend at the 11th Annual Southside Basketball Tournament.
In action last Thursday, the San Antonio Memorial Lady Minutemen beat the Lobos, 60-46, and the Del Rio Queens beat the Lobos, 43-23.
Memorial took a 26-22 lead in the first half.
They dominated the Lobos, 20-16, in the third period to increase their lead to 46-38, then edged the Lobos, 14-8, in the final period to win the ball game.
Gaby Victorino and Celeste Valdez each scored in double digits for Uvalde. Victorino scored 14 points, while Valdez collected 10.
Others who contributed to the UHS scoring column were Desirae Garcia with six points; Monica Vera with five points; Maelynn Flores with four points; Kendra Garcia with three points; and Jacelyn Ortegon and Celeste Sandoval with two points each.
With a score of 17-13 at halftime, the girls of Del Rio took advantage of a third period of 17 points to control the Uvaldeans.
Gabby Victorino and Celeste Valdez led the Lobos’ individual score with nine points and eight points, respectively. The other scorers were Maelynn Flores with two points; and Kendra Garcia Desirae Garcia, Cecilia Cantu and Celeste Sandoval with one point each.
In last Friday’s tournament, the Lobos lost a narrow 49-45 decision to the Lytle Pirates.
Trailing 31-22 at halftime, the Lobos rallied to reduce the scoring deficit to 38-32 at the end of the third period.
But Lytle held off the Lobos in the final period to claim a four-point victory.
“We had our chances to beat Lytle, but we let the game slip away,” said Uvalde High School basketball head coach Fortino Patiño. Gabby Victorino racked up 21 points to lead all individual scores of the contest. Maelynn Flores also scored in double digits for the Lobos. She scored 10 points. Celeste Valdez scored eight points, Kendra Garcia recorded four points, while Monica Vera and Desirae Garcia both contributed one point. In their final game last Friday, the Lobos lost a 44-23 decision to the tournament hosts Southside Girls.
Celeste Valdez led the scoring for the Lobos, but individual score totals for this contest were not available.
