SACRAMENTO – As California continues to protect protections for access to abortion following the reversal of Roe vs. WadePro Tempore Senate Speaker Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) moderated a roundtable on reproductive rights with Vice President Kamala Harris and other California leaders today in San Francisco.
The event included remarks from Vice President Harris, Pro Tem Atkins, Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Attorney General Rob Bonta, Planned Parenthood Northern California CEO Gilda Gonzales, and NARAL Pro-Choice Director Shannon Hovis. California. Members of the California State Legislature and leaders of reproductive health care organizations were also present and had the opportunity to brief the Vice President on the work being done in California.
“I feel deeply for women whose options are shrinking and for those who are hopelessly confused by the patchwork of laws that differ greatly depending on where you live. Quilting is fine for a quilt, but not for a social fabric that depends on recognizing our rights across state lines,” Pro Tem Atkins said during his opening statement. “In California, there is no confusion. Abortion is legal and safe here.
