A CPM leader in Kerala called Kerala PCC Chairman and Lok Sabha MP K Sudhakaran a “wretched creature” and also warned that Sudhakaran’s life was at the mercy of the CPM.
CPM Idukki District Secretary CV Varghese made the statement in relation to the recent murder of an All India Federation of Students activist allegedly committed by Youth Congress workers in Idukki. He said at a public reception in Idukki that Sudhakaran’s life was at the mercy of the CPM. The CPM did not assassinate Sudhakaran because he was a “wretched creature”, Varghese said.
Even as congressional leaders slashed the statement and demanded that a police case be filed against Varghese, the CPM leader stuck to his statement. He said he was responding to provocative statements made by Sudhakaran after the killing of the SFI worker.
SFI activist Deeraj R, a student at the Idukki Government School of Engineering, was reportedly murdered by Youth Congress workers during tensions over university union elections in January. Sudhakaran had reiterated that there was no strong evidence against the Youth Congress workers detained in the case and even said that Dheeraj’s murder was an invited martyrdom by the CPM.
The statement of the head of the CPM responded to this position of Sudhakaran.
Opposition leader VD Satheesan of Congress demanded that a police case be filed against Varghese for the provocative statement. The CPM leader was acting like a gangster, Satheesan criticized.
While some CPM leaders supported Vargheese’s statement, CPM Secretary of State Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said he had not met with her.
