‘You don’t need to be named leader to be in the leadership group’: Rahul Dravid on whether Hardik Pandya is in the leadership group after IPL 2022 win

Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans to IPL 2022 title

India are set to face South Africa in a five-match T20I series starting on Thursday and the Indian team went out for their first training session on Tuesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The focus was on all newcomers who were included in the squad after strong IPL performances. When you talk about IPL performances, you have to talk about the man who led debuting Gujarat Titans to the title this season and that’s the all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Hardik is back in the Indian team for the first time since the T20 World Cup last year and his leadership credentials are currently in the news.

Head Coach Rahul Dravid spoke to the media and was also asked if the IPL win meant Hardik was now part of the management group.

“I just met Hardik a few hours ago. I think his leadership was impressive throughout the IPL, he performed well. But I mean you don’t need to be named leader to do part of a leadership group,” Dravid said.

“Yes, in terms of what happens in the future, whether someone leads the team or not, it depends on many factors. The coaches will make the decision based on what they see and what what will happen in the future, player availability. It’s great that we have a lot of Indian captains who are doing well in the IPL. Hardik was one of them, Rahul did very well for LSG, Sanju captained RR Shreyas also did that in KKR It helps people grow and develop as players It really helps you grow as a person too, having to make decisions C It’s great from our perspective to see that,” Dravid added.

Dravid, however, clarified that the focus on Hardik currently remains on his bowling ability and the depth his versatile skillset can bring to the team.

“At this point it’s really, from our point of view, that he’s started bowling again. You know what it does to us, what depth it brings to the team. So for us, it it would be about making sure we get the best out of him as a cricketer, in terms of bowling, in terms of batting,” Dravid said.
